About Þingvellir National Park
Þingvellir is where the North American and Eurasian plates pull apart, creating dramatic rifts and canyons. Walk the Almannagjá gorge, snorkel the crystal-clear Silfra fissure, and stand where the Alþingi assembly met in 930 AD. It's the first stop on the classic Golden Circle.
When to visit
Snorkeling in Silfra runs year-round. Autumn paints the park gold; winter brings frozen waterfalls.
